Planning on going trick-or-treating Thursday? There's
one address you must have on your route, 1313 Mockingbird

Waxahachie, Texas of course, where Munster fans Charles and
Sandra McKee have built a perfect replica of the Munster's

Classic
Letterman to Air on Trio |
[October
25, 2002] Trio,
a cable channel I don't get, has secured the rights to
80 of 451 episodes of NBC's "Late Night with David
Letterman," that aired from 1982 to 1993.
The classic NBC episodes will begin airing in January of 2003
at 10:00PM. It's expected that Trio will pick up their
option for an additional 80 episodes. Reruns of "Late
Night" aired briefly on E! in 1990 until Dave
insisted NBC revoke the syndication license. Trio
also airs "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In" |
Classic
TV Stars on Street Smarts |
[October
25, 2002] It pains me to promote a show
that is a total rip-off of a Howard Stern on-air game...
"Street Smarts" is the game show where
contestants bet on whether regulars "Joes" on the
street will know the answers to trivia questions. The
week of November 4th is Classic TV Week on "Street
Smarts" where instead of asking the man on the
street, they ask stars of classic TV. On Monday, JM J.
Bullock of "Too Close for Comfort" and Jill
Whelan from "The Love Boat" give a name for a
male donkey. On Tuesday November 5th, Todd Bridges and Gary
Coleman of "Diff'rent Strokes" share their
knowledge of "Sesame Street." On Wednesday
it's Charlene Tilton of "Dallas" and Randy
Mantooth from "Emergency" tell the number of
feet in a yard. On Thursday November 7th: Mary
McDonough "The Waltons" and Sally Struthers
of "All in the Family" recite lyrics of the
national anthem. Friday's guests will be Erin Moran ("Happy
Days") and Jimmie Walker ("Good Times")
tell about the Westminster Kennel Club.
"Street Smarts" airs in syndication
(check your TV guide or their web
site to find your local time and channel), and nationally
on the WGN Superstation weekdays at 3:30PM. |
'Tremors'
the Series to Air on Sci-Fi |
[October
24, 2002] I'm a fan of the "Tremors"
movies, so I thought it was really cool that the Sci-Fi
channel is making it into a series. I can even put a
classic TV spin on this story because it will star "Family
Ties" Michael Gross who will play survivalist Burt
Gummer, as he did in the three feature films, and Marcia
Strassman who played the lovely Julie Kotter on "Welcome
Back Kotter," and more recently Meredith on the
series "Providence."
Tremors takes place in the sleepy desert town of
Perfection, Nevada, which is also home to a giant prehistoric
worm named El Blanco who is on the endangered species list.
Determined not to abandon their town and way of life, the
Perfectionists struggle to maintain an uneasy peace with El
Blanco and the other dangerous creatures that populate their
desert.
Filming on the "Tremors" series began
October 1st in Baja, Mexico, according to the
network. The one-hour action series will
debut on Sci-Fi in January 2003. |

Are They Now? on VH1 |

childhoods were documented on the small screen. In exclusive
interviews, we’ll hear what it was like to survive the glare
of the public eye at a young age, and what happened when they

Strokes," Willie Aames of "Charles in

Mayim Bialik and Jenna von Oy of "Blossom," Fred
Berry of "What's Happening," Corky Pigeon
of "Silver Spoons," Ron Palillo of
"Welcome Back Kotter," Brian Bonsall of "Family
Ties," Candace Cameron of "Full House," and

The new version, entitled "Young MacGyver,"
will focus on MacGyver's nephew, following the twentysomething
hero as he leaves school and winds up joining the Phoenix

Patrick Dies in Fire |
|
Dennis Patrick as Jason
McGuire in "Dark Shadows" 1967 |
[October 15, 2002]
Actor Dennis Patrick, best known for his portrayal of Jason
McGuire in the gothic soap "Dark Shadows,"
died Sunday in a fire in his Hollywood Hills home overlooking
Los Angeles. He was found with the body of his beloved poodle
beside him.
Dennis' career spanned nearly five
decades with roles in "Somerset"
(1970), he played the Ewing family's banker,
Vaughn Leland, on "Dallas" (1978) and Admiral
Tisdale in the 1988 mini-series "War and
Remembrance." As an
accomplished actor and director of film, television and
theatre, with roles in many classic shows, including "The
Twilight Zone", "Dallas," "All in the
Family," "War and Remembrance," "Hawaii
Five-O" and "The Rockford Files." Throughout
his career, Dennis amassed an incredible 1,800 credited
television guest roles.
Though he was only Jason McGuire and Paul Stoddard in
the television series "Dark Shadows" (later
to be Sheriff Patterson in the film "House of Dark
Shadows"), Dennis Patrick was television's first
vampire in a 1951 episode of "Stage 13."
Patrick was battling cancer and needed kidney dialysis.
''He was having some problems,'' family friend Siobhan
Burns-Walden told reporters. "He was getting pretty
weak.'' It took about 50 firefighters to extinguish the blaze
that broke out around 1:15 in the afternoon.
Investigators believe that he may have died from smoke
inhalation. An autopsy is pending. Dennis
Patrick was 84.

Game
Show Network's 'Hollywood Scares' Includes Rarity |
[October
15, 2002] Elvira, Mistress of the Dark, is hosting
Game Show Network’s special Halloween-themed three-hour
primetime "marathon," “Hollywood Scares”
on Saturday, October 26 from 9:00PM to Midnight. At
9:00PM there's an episode of "Match Game 90"
with celebrities dressed in costumes. Charles Nelson
Reilly dressed as Superman; Brett Somers as a little girl;
Walt Willy as a wizard; Jill Larson as the Statue of Liberty;
Ronn Lucas as a little boy and Vicki Lawrence as Little Red
Riding Hood.
At 9:30PM there's a very special treat,
an airing of "Storybook Squares,"
"Storybook Squares" aired on NBC in 1969, for
just seven months. It was "Hollywood
Squares" for kids with celebrities posing as famous
characters from history and literature. The Game
Show Network claims the episode was taped in 1977, which of
course doesn't make sense, because production had ceased eight
years prior. It features Soupy Sales dressed as Thomas
Edison, Jo Anne Worley as Martha Washington; Connie Stevens as
the Queen of Tarts; Pat Harrington as Leonardo da Vinci;
Florence Henderson as Belle Star; George Gobel as Henry VII;
Susan Seaforth Hayes as Cleopatra; Bill Hayes as Mark Anthony;
Big Bird as himself; and Paul Lynde as
Frankenstein.
The "marathon" also includes
recent episodes of "Whammy" "Friend or
Foe?" and "Russian Roulette." GSN
tends to swap the times around on the day of the broadcast, so
you might want to set your VCR for the whole three hours in
case they juggle again. For fans of
Elvira (AKA Cassandra Peterson, the actress that seems
to only work one week a year), she will be appearing on the
new syndicated "Hollywood Squares" the week
of October 28th.
[Update October 26, 2002] I stand
corrected, the "Storybook Squares" edition
was from 1977. I have no info on this episode. If
someone knows more, please write.
And 51 year old Cassandra Peterson still looks great! |
ABC
Airs Two Halloween Classics |
[October 12, 2002] The
classic half-hour animated Halloween-themed Peanuts special, "It's
the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown," created by late
cartoonist Charles M. Schulz, will air on ABC, Friday,
October 25 at 8:00PM. In the 1966 half-hour
animated special, "It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie
Brown," The Peanuts gang celebrates Halloween, with
Linus hoping that, finally, he will be visited by The Great
Pumpkin, while Charlie Brown is invited to a Halloween party.
Also
scheduled on the 25th is the Emmy Award-winning "Boo!
To You, Too, Winnie The Pooh" at 8:30PM. "Boo!
To You, Too, Winnie The Pooh" received its Primetime
Emmy Award for Individual Achievement in Storyboarding (Phil
Weinstein) in 1997, as well as an Emmy nomination for
Outstanding Music and Lyrics (Michael & Patty) BTW,
October 14th was Winnie the Pooh's 76th birthday. |
Teresa
Graves Dies in Fire |
[October
11, 2002] Teresa Graves, star of "Get Christy
Love," and "Laugh-In" regular died
in a fire at her home yesterday. Firefighters found Graves
unconscious in a bedroom. She was taken to a nearby hospital,
where she died. The blaze began shortly past midnight at
Graves' 1,600-square-foot home in Hyde Park. Firefighters
found the rear part of the home engulfed in flames. The fire
appeared to have started in a 200-square-foot enclosed patio
that was added on to the original home. Smoke alarms inside
the home were functional, fire officials said. The cause
of the fire was under investigation.
Graves started her career as a singer
with the Doodletown Pipers. She later turned to acting,
appearing regularly on "Rowan & Martin's
Laugh-In" in 1969 and 1970. On "Get
Christie Love!", which ran during the 1974-75 season,
she played the first black woman hired by a big-city police
department. It's said that Graves ruined her career by
refusing many roles because of religious convictions.
She was 59.

Family on WPIX 11 |
[October
11, 2002] "The Addams Family" is
coming to WPIX (WB-11, in NY) on Saturday, October 26th and
I'm so bummed. "The Addams Family" is
one of my all time favorites and my cable company
dropped channel 11 from our line-up. On Saturday,
from Noon to 10:00PM they'll be running a 10 hour
marathon of 20, creepy & classic episodes. It's your
chance to spend some quality time around the Holiday
(Halloween IS the Addams Family's Holiday) with your old
favorites like Cousin Itt, Lurch, Uncle Fester, Morticia,
Gomez and the rest of the Addams Family. |

[October
10, 2002] Buddy Lester, Stand-up comedian
and character actor on television and in motion pictures
starring Frank Sinatra and Jerry Lewis, has died. Lester
died Friday of cancer in a Van Nuys nursing home, he was 86.
The comedian proved even more popular on television, and was a
part of the regular cast of "The New Phil Silvers
Show" in 1963-64. Lester also acted in several
episodes of such police series as "Adam-12"
and "Barney Miller," and became a familiar
face through his work in shows such as "Love, American
Style," "The New Dick Van Dyke Show,"
"The Odd Couple" and "Starsky and
Hutch." His brother, Jerry Lester, died
in 1995.
Bruce Paltrow, the producer-director behind the
groundbreaking television shows "St. Elsewhere"
and "The White Shadow" as well as the father
of actress Gwyneth Paltrow, died Wednesday of pneumonia while
traveling in Rome, a spokesman for the family said. He was 58.
Carmen Phillips, an actress cast in small roles in
some 20 films and 50 television series, including "Easy
Rider" and "Perry Mason," died
September 22 of lung cancer at Queen of Angels/Hollywood
Presbyterian Hospital, she was 65. Phillips was an
activist for actors rights and animal rights. She befriended
many better-known colleagues, including actress Diane Ladd,
who presided at her memorial service in Santa Barbara.

Bob
Crane's Son: Not Happy |
[October
9, 2002] Scotty
Crane, the son of the late "Hogan's Heroes"
actor Bob Crane, has been making the talk show
rounds. It seems that he's really upset about the
upcoming movie, "AutoFocus" about his
father. It's not that the film is nearly X-Rated, it's
that they got the facts wrong. In addition to them
getting it wrong, he claims the whole idea was stolen.
Several
years ago Scotty and his mother, Patricia Crane (stage name,
Sigrid Valdis, actress, and co-star "Hilda" on
"Hogan's Heroes") wrote a screenplay and
titled it "Take Off Your Clothes and Smile"
or "F-Stop," they couldn't
decide. It is what Scotty claims to be a true account of
Bob Crane’s Life, told from the inside out.

Jackie Gleason Story |
[October
6, 2002] Next Sunday CBS will air the bio-pict, "Gleason"
starring Brad Garrett as "the Great One,"
Herbert John "Jackie" Gleason. The film
chronicles the creation of "The
Honeymooners," exposes the drama that existed
behind-the-scenes of the comedy, points out the parallels
between the show and Gleason's real life and reveals what made
the larger-than-life comedian the man who could create the
beloved characters of Ralph, Alice, Ed and Trixie. The film
also explores events in Gleason's childhood that explain how
the characters in "The Honeymooners" had a
relationship to Gleason that went much deeper than the show,
and how life was not always a honeymoon for this charming but
tortured and conflicted genius.
With Terry Farrell as Marilyn Gleason and Michael Chieffo
as Art Carney. Howard Deutch ("Watching

directs. Rick Podell and Michael Preminger wrote the script. |

Featured
Shows in Morty's Mall:
|
|
|
|
[October 6, 2002] The last time I made
up a list of the new TV shows on DVD was in June, so I guess
I'll call these my "quarterly reports." Some
of the new DVDs are for shows featured in my Showcase pages
and those new additions have been added. You can
read the entire list of 105 new releases in the Mall at: New
TV on DVD.
You'll find popular shows like "The
Jeffersons: The Complete First Season,"
and "I
Spy" newer shows like "Mad
about You," and "Malcolm
In The Middle", There are some
unique entries, such as "Get
a Life," one of the most
off-the-wall sitcoms ever with Chris Elliot as a blissfully
naive, 30-year-old paperboy who valiantly fought anything that
would require him to "grow up."
You can now watch "The
Outer Limits: The Original Series," without
the editing that added more commercial time. There are
some new titles from the BBC including "The
Complete Are You Being Served? Collection."
To round out your collection of classic TV there are
specials like a boxed set of "Ed
Sullivan's Rock 'N' Roll Classics," "The
Carol Burnett Show: Show Stopper", and "The
Best of the Muppet Show," and the hit TV movie, "Surviving
Gilligan's Island."

Passings,
from the cast of "Hazel" |
[October
5, 2002] Whitney Blake, who played Dorothy
Baxter on "Hazel" died on September
28th. She was 76. Whitney Blake was born Nancy Baxter
and is the mother of Meredith Baxter. A decade after "Hazel,"
she co-created the show with her husband for his boss, Norman
Lear, "One Day at a Time." The
show broke new ground by making a divorced single mother,
played by Bonnie Franklin, the head of the household.
set in an Indianapolis apartment house with Mackenzie Phillips
and Valerie Bertinelli as the teenage daughters, aired from
1975 to 1984.
Born in Eagle Rock and educated at Pasadena City College,
Blake began acting at the Pasadena Playhouse and returned
there as frequently as possible, playing everything from
Shakespeare to musicals. The stage may have been her
preferred medium, but she became far better known during the
Golden Age of television on dramatic anthology series such as "Playhouse
90" and the "Zane Grey Theater" and
in early episodes of "Maverick" and "Bonanza."
She was in the first episode of "Perry Mason"
in 1957, as Evelyn Bagby in "The Case of the Restless
Redhead." Blake, who was also an activist for civil
rights, co-hosted her own local KCBS-TV Channel 2 daytime show
"Boutique" in the late 1960s, interviewing
guests and offering opinions about fashion, books and home
decor.
Blake died Saturday at her home in Edgartown, Mass., after a
long illness, attended by her family and the Hospice of
Martha's Vineyard, said her husband, writer-producer Allan
Manings.
Robert P. Lieb, 88, a veteran character actor on
Broadway, television and film, died Saturday September 28, in
Los Angeles of complications from intestinal surgery earlier
this year. Lieb is best known for his role as the arresting
Officer Flaherty in the often-repeated "Twilight
Zone" episode "The Night of the Meek." The
Christmastime show featured Art Carney as a department store
Santa, who, after being fired for drinking, discovers he is
the real Santa Claus. Lieb's daughter, Bon Appetit
magazine editor Barbara Fairchild, invited friends and
colleagues to watch annual December reruns on the Sci-Fi
Channel. He made guest appearances in "Bewitched","
"My Favorite Martian," "F-Troop," and
many other shows of the '60's. Younger viewers may remember
him as "Uncle Rocky" on "ALF."
On the large screen, Lieb appeared as the seedy attorney for
John Huston's character in "Myra Breckinridge"
(1970), and had small roles in such films as "Angel in
My Pocket" (1969), "How to Frame a Figg"
(1971) and "Mystery Men" (1999). Lieb
was also a cast member of the series "Hazel,"
he played Harry Thompson (George Baxter's brother-in-law) in
the 1961-1965 seasons, and Lieb died on the same day as
Whitney Blake. |
TNN:
Closer to a Goal |
[October 2,
2002] When TNN, became "The New TNN,"
their goal was to re-brand the network and offer programming
geared towards the 18 to 49 year old male audience. For
some reason they filled in the empty slots with "Kids
Say the Darndest Things" and "Three's
Company," which we may have enjoyed, but I feel was a
marketing goof. They seem to be back on track now, which
means that the only classic left is "The A-Team."
Below you'll find the new schedule starting in November.

isn't-- I doubt I'll bother providing future schedules.
