Following the death of King Viserys I Targaryen in season 1, season 2 has seen Westeros divided into the Blacks and Greens, with both sides trying to claim allies amid the beginning of a violent cycle. From the murder of Lucerys Velaryon to the Blood & Cheese assassinations to the duel of the Cargylls, the dance fully began at the Battle of Rook’s Rest, where Targaryens fought one another on dragonback.
House of the Dragon is based on the book Fire & Blood, which is an extension of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice & Fire book series. Based on the source material, plenty of battles and dragon fights are still to come, though season 2 was mostly about the opposing sides assembling their forces for the conflict. The Greens have raised the armies of the Reach and the Westerlands, while the Blacks have raised the armies of the North, the Vale, and the Riverlands, with new dragonriders supplementing their forces.
