An upcoming episode of fan-favorite Murdoch Mysteries finds Detective Watts (Daniel Maslany) suspicious of his lover Jack. After finally finding love and community in post-Victorian era Toronto, will everything come crashing down? Season 14, shot during the pandemic last year, is currently airing on Ovation TV, America’s only arts network. Tune in Saturday, March 13 at 7PM ET.
Detective Llewelyn Watts (Daniel Maslany) joined Murdoch Mysteries in season 10; a bit of a loose cannon, Watts has little regard for social graces. Well-read, he has an existential philosopher’s curiosity about human nature and an objective analytical logic in the mold of Sherlock Holmes. Over the past few seasons, Watts has proved an important ally for Detective Murdoch. Last season (13), viewers learned that Watts was gay after assisting with a case involving a stamp enthusiast and a men-only party. Of course, being gay in 1900s Toronto is quite difficult, and Watts does his best to keep his sexuality a secret to avoid indecency charges. Watts eventually meets a butcher named Jack Walker (Jesse Lavercombe), and they begin to spend quite a lot of time together. Trouble starts to brew when a new detective joins the Station House, one who proves to be close-minded about Watts’ relationship with Jack.

Daniel Maslany joined the cast of Murdoch Mysteries in Season 10. He was a regular on the sci-fi drama series Impulse for YouTube Originals and starred on CBC’s offbeat and absurd comedy series Four in the Morning. Daniel’s film credits include roles in the independent features Goliath, Supergrid, and Lie Exposed and the short films The Mohel, Ingredients, and Touch which won the Lakeshorts International Short Film Festival Jurors Choice Award. He has performed in theatres across Canada with Alberta Theatre Projects, Caravan Farm Theatre, and 2b Theatre. His solo show O.C.Dean premiered at Globe Theatre in Regina in 2013, and then toured to Uno Fest in Victoria in 2014. He starred in the Canadian premiere of Stupid F*cking Bird by Aaron Posner in 2017. Daniel was chosen as one of The Hollywood Reporter’s Rising Stars in Canada for their TIFF edition 2018.
