If the Brett Kavanaugh hearings (today, with special guest star Christine Blasey Ford) aren’t giving you the laughs you need, turn to CBS tonight for “Murphy Brown.”

It’s been twenty years since Murphy Brown (Candice Bergen) brought us the news, and there’s so much news to get caught up on.

SEASON PREMIERE: “Mom” 9:00PM on CBS. “Pre-Washed Lettuce and a Mime”
Christy reconsiders going through law school after she experiences a difficult first day; Bonnie is deeply disturbed by an unsettling dream. Cast: Anna Faris, Allison Janney, Mimi Kennedy, Jaime Pressly, Beth Hall, and William Fitchtner.

SERIES PREMIERE: “Murphy Brown” 9:30PM on CBS. “Fake News” Female television journalist Murphy Brown comes out of retirement in a world of 24-hour cable news, social media and supposed fake news in order to show what it means to be an honest reporter in today’s heated political climate. Cast: Candice Bergen, Faith Ford, Joe Regalbuto, Grant Shaud, Jake McDorman, and Nik Dodani.

SEASON PREMIERE: “Grey’s Anatomy” 8:00PM on ABC. “With a Wonder and a Wild Desire; Broken Together” The doctors compete for a new position; an apparent distraction causes Meredith to lose her focus, while Maggie ends up being the keeper of a big secret; Meredith develops a connection with a patient; Jo makes an unexpected alliance. Cast: Ellen Pompeo, Justin Chambers, Chandra Wilson, James Pickens Jr., Kevin McKidd, and Jessica Capshaw.

SEASON PREMIERE: “The Good Place” 8:00PM on NBC (Special one-hour episode). “Everything Is Bonzer!” Michael intervenes in the near-fatal accidents to Chidi, Tahani, Jason and Eleanor with hopes that a second opportunity at life will make them better individuals.

SEASON PREMIERE: “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” 9:00PM on NBC. “Man Up ; Man Down” It’s the 20th season for “Law & Order: SVU” Despite evidence of rape, a teenager refuses to reveal his attacker; Benson and Rollins confess to some big changes; ADA Stone takes the blame for the verdict in Sam’s case, but before Benson can offer any help, Sam goes on to make a tragic decision.
