Roku and Major League Baseball Celebrate the Long Ball in “Going, Going, Gone: The Magic of the Home Run” [VIDEO]

With the season heating up, Major League Baseball and Roku announced today that “Going, Going, Gone: The Magic of the Home Run” will stream free beginning Sunday, July 6, on The Roku Channel.

Hosted by renowned comedian, Emmy-nominated producer, and baseball fanatic Roy Wood Jr., the all-new Roku Original produced by MLB Studios will explore the evolution and appeal of the home run and the Home Run Derby, one of the most thrilling events in sports. Clips from the special can be viewed here and here.

Blending Wood Jr.’s comedic style and passion for the game, classic archival footage, interviews with current star players, and fun, interactive segments with baseball legends, the special will capture the hearts and minds of all baseball fans.

Wood Jr., who served for eight years as a “Daily Show” correspondent, says of hosting the program, “As a baseball fan, it’s an honor to lead the exploration into one of the most electric acts in all of sports.”

Fans of the game will get a front-row seat to hear star players, including Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Jazz Chisholm, and Home Run Derby champions Pete Alonso and Teoscar Hernandez discuss what makes the home run so glorious and theatrical in exclusive interviews.

MLB legend Albert Pujols, who hit 703 career home runs, will make a special appearance, plus Chris Berman, the legendary voice of the Home Run Derby, and Hall of Fame broadcaster Bob Costas will opine on the mystique and long-lasting aura of the long ball.

“This special marks a new milestone in our partnership with Major League Baseball and will bring audiences the fun, emotion, and anticipation of the home run, and more specifically, one of the biggest events in sports, the Home Run Derby,” said Joe Franzetta, Head of Sports, Roku Media. “We look forward to having the sport’s top players and figures unpack notable performances, electric moments, and more in this all-new special.”

“There’s something incredibly special about home runs, from hitting them in backyard games as a kid to watching big leaguers hit mammoth ones deep into the night,” said Kenny Gersh, MLB Executive Vice President, Media & Business development. “This special will be the next chapter in the great story of home runs, and what makes them an everlasting part of our sports culture, rooted in mystique, excitement, and awe.”

The 2025 T-Mobile Home Run Derby will take place on Tuesday, July 14th at Truist Park in Atlanta. “Going, Going, Gone: The Magic of the Home Run” builds on Roku’s existing partnership with MLB as Roku is currently in its second season as the exclusive home of MLB Sunday Leadoff. “Going, Going, Gone: The Magic of the Home Run” was produced by the Emmy Award-winning MLB Studios and the MLB Network production team, with Sean Boyle overseeing the project on behalf of Roku.

The special will join Roku’s lineup of premium sports originals that give fans unprecedented access into their favorite leagues for free, including “NFL Draft: The Pick Is In,” “A Radical Act: Renee Montgomery,” “WWE: Next Gen,” and “Fight Inc: Inside the UFC.”

The Roku Channel is available to stream for free on Roku devices or TVs and can be easily accessed online at TheRokuChannel.com and on iOS and Android devices, Amazon Fire TVs, Samsung TVs, and Google TVs, and other Android TV OS devices.
