MotorTrend Celebrates Latino Car-Building Culture with Premiere of New Series “Shorty’s Dream Shop”

MotorTrend Group, the world’s largest automotive media group, announced today the new series SHORTY’S DREAM SHOP as its latest car-building show celebrating Latino’s vibrant automotive culture. Following custom car legend Javier “Shorty” Ponce and his Texas-based crew that designs and builds ground-up classic car restorations, the series showcases the Latino community’s decades-long influence on car customization in America.

“This show gives audiences a closer look at automotive restoration through the lens of Latino car culture, as well as sharing what the American Dream means to people,” said Shorty, reflecting on his success as a first-generation Latino-American. “In many ways, having my dream garage is a way to give back to the community. I’ve been able to build and drive some of the most beautiful cars on earth, and I know what cars mean to people, so if there’s a way for me to take my love of cars and help others realize their dreams, then I feel an obligation to do it.”

Whether helping revive the spirits of a sick relative or making an aging parent’s wish come true, classic car aficionados from around the U.S. come to Shorty’s Custom Paint in Dallas for his magic touch. From body work to engine modification to custom paint and modern suspension, Shorty and his team do it all. The program features a one-car per one-hour program format, which allows for a deep-dive into vehicle restoration. The impeccable final products are eye-popping masterpieces, and viewers at home are invited along for the ride to learn the ins-and-outs of automotive repair and restoration.

In the series premiere of SHORTY’S DREAM SHOP, streaming Wednesday, November 16 on MotorTrend+ and premiering the same day @ 10PM ET/PT on MotorTrend TV, Shorty and his crew are visited by a father and son from California who wish to rebuild the family’s 1966 Chevrolet SS Impala Convertible – a vehicle with extremely special meaning. The 1966 Impala was the vehicle that brought the father and mother together, the latter of whom is bravely struggling with cancer back in California. The result of the newly restored Impala from Shorty’s represents both the joy of the past and hope for the future.
