This season’s cast will feature 16 brand-new faces, all entering the house with $500,000 in their eyes. The house decor will even reflect a new adventure, as represented in what executive producers Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan dub the “BB Beach Club.”
“We really felt like,” Grodner exclusively told Parade.com, “After over a year of all of us being locked in our homes, we wanted our house guests to be able to feel like they’re on vacation. I think we’re all longing for our vacations to get out. It’s beach club meets casino; think Monte Carlo meets Vegas. It’s going to feel like a boutique hotel with a casino vibe. Big Brother has always been about taking chances in high stakes.” And the Vegas vibe won’t stop with the decorating. In fact, season 23 will have the competitors constantly taking a gamble, being presented many opportunities to weigh risk versus reward.
“We’re really leaning into this risk worth versus reward dilemmas,” Meehan says. “The idea is that they’re going to have to make decisions that we’ve never really seen houseguests playing the Big Brother make before.”
Entertainment Weekly also spoke to Big Brother executive producers Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan, who explained how the teams will be selected, the theme for season 23, and what else to expect on the live premiere, including a tempting offer at the very end.
Allison Grodner told EW, “Well, the theme this year is the Big Brother Beach Club — the BB Beach Club. We thought about how we’ve all spent the past year locked in our houses, and how we’ve all longed for vacation. We want this year to feel that way. Our houseguests are coming in and going on a bit of a vacation. Think about a beach club meets Vegas meets Monte Carlo. It’s a boutique hotel in its decor, and it’s aspirational.”
Rich Meehan added, “Yeah, it’s equal parts beach club, and, I would say, casino. There’s going to be a lot of fun gambling elements this summer.”
The cast of Big Brother 23 will be revealed Thursday, July 1. This year CBS started the initiative that all reality show casts must be 50 percent people of color. Grodner told EW, “I think we feel over the past seasons that we’ve had a pretty diverse cast, and certainly we have a diverse cast this time. It’s 50 percent, if not more.”
