She was best known in the U.S. for voicing the elderly matriarch, Mama Coco, in the 2017 Disney Pixar film <em>Coco<\/em>. She was 90 years old.<\/p>\n<p>The Mexican actress\u2019 death was announced by Mexico\u2019s National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature on Sunday. \u201cWith deep sadness, we regret the sensitive death of the leading actress Ana Ofelia Murgu\u00eda,\u201d the company wrote in a statement on X (formerly known as Twitter). According to the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature, her career in Mexican film, theater, and television spanned 60 years. She graduated from institute\u2019s National School of Theater Arts in 1957 and went on to appear in more than 70 plays and over 90 films \u2014 often as a villain.<\/p>\n<p>The actress won three Ariel Awards, Mexico\u2019s equivalent of an Oscar, for \u201c<em>Cadena Perpetua<\/em>\u201d (1979), \u201c<em>Los Motivos de Luz<\/em>\u201d (1986) and \u201c<em>La Reina de la Noche<\/em>\u201d (1994).
