Two “Soul of a Nation” Specials to Air May 25 and June 18 on ABC

First Special Reflects on the First Anniversary of George Floyd’s Murder and Second Commemorates Juneteenth

Following the groundbreaking first season of “Soul of a Nation,” ABC News announced two upcoming specials reflecting on the first anniversary of George Floyd’s death and commemorating Juneteenth.

On Tuesday, May 25 (10:00-11:00PM EDT), a year after Floyd’s death and the racial reckoning that swept the country, “After Floyd: The Year that Shook the World – A Soul of a Nation Special,” will reflect on the cataclysmic, generation-defining moment that arguably inspired change around the world, chronicle the dramatic and epic events surrounding Floyd’s death and spotlight where the country goes from this point forward.

On Friday, June 18 (9:01-11:00PM EDT), ABC News will present an exciting evening of celebration and resilience in observance of Juneteenth with two hours of intimate storytelling, powerful tributes, and musical performances. This marks the second year in a row ABC News will produce a special to honor the history and significance of Juneteenth among the Black community and around the United States. In 2020, ABC News’ primetime special “Juneteenth: A Celebration of Overcoming” was the No. 1 program across the board in its time slot.

“Soul of a Nation” was executive produced by Eric Johnson and Robe Imbriano. Chantre Camack served as executive editorial producer, James Adolphus was series director, and Marie Nelson is the series creator and senior vice president of Integrated Content Strategy at ABC News. Johnson is executive producer, and Melia Patria is senior producer for both specials. Catherine McKenzie is co-executive producer for the special on June 18.
