Today Paramount+ revealed the official trailer and premiere date for its highly anticipated documentary THE CARTERS: HURTS TO LOVE YOU. The two-part documentary will premiere on Tuesday, April 15 exclusively on Paramount+.
THE CARTERS: HURTS TO LOVE YOU takes a deeply personal look at the soaring success and heartbreaking struggles of a family propelled into the spotlight by the meteoric rise of the musical careers of two brothers, Nick Carter (Backstreet Boys) and the late pop sensation Aaron Carter. From director Soleil Moon Frye (Kid 90) and produced by See It Now Studios and Candle True Stories, the documentary unravels the deeply moving story of the Carter family, told by Angel Carter Conrad, the singers’ sister. The film features intimate conversations between the only surviving Carter siblings, Angel and Nick, who confront their complex childhood and the profound tragedies that marked their family.
THE CARTERS: HURTS TO LOVE YOU follows bona fide American teen heartthrobs Nick and Aaron, who seemed to have it all, but behind their remarkable gifts was a family dealing with mental health struggles, drug addiction and heartbreaking neglect. Angel unpacks the complicated family dynamics that led to the untimely deaths of three of the original five Carter kids as well as their father. She discusses the pain, fame, expectations, addiction, assumptions and at the heart of it all, critical mental health issues faced by the family, with the hope to honor their journey and transform their past into a message of hope and purpose for others encountering similar challenges.
Through never-before-seen home videos untouched for decades, family photographs, audio recordings, private text messages and their most intimate moments, Frye was given unprecedented access to the family and their personal archives, pulling back the veil on the Carter family as we hear them speak out for the first time: from their sadness and fear to love and hope. THE CARTERS: HURTS TO LOVE YOU features first-time conversations with friends who also live in the spotlight, including Melissa Joan Hart and Scout Willis and longtime manager Lori Knight.
