Today, Paramount+ announced that the Paramount Pictures’ film, September 5, will be available to stream on the service starting February 25 in the U.S. and Canada.*

Hailed by the Associated Press as an “undeniably riveting and compelling watch,” September 5 is Certified Fresh™ on Rotten Tomatoes® boasting a 93% critics’ score and a Verified Hot 90% Popcornmeter rating and has received widespread acclaim from critics at The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Los Angeles Times, RogerEbert.com, The Guardian, The Atlantic and more. The film has earned prestigious awards recognition, winning this year’s LA Press Club’s Veritas Award and receiving nominations from the Academy Awards®, Golden Globes®, Producers Guild of America Awards, and Critics’ Choice Awards.

September 5 unveils the decisive moment that forever changed media coverage and continues to impact live news today. Set during the 1972 Munich Summer Olympics, the film follows the ABC Sports broadcasting team who quickly shifted from sports reporting to live coverage of the Israeli athletes taken hostage. Through this lens, September 5 provides an important perspective on the live broadcast seen globally by millions of people at the time.

At the heart of the story is Geoff (John Magaro), a young and ambitious producer striving to prove himself to his boss, the legendary TV executive Roone Arledge (Peter Sarsgaard). Together with German interpreter Marianne (Leonie Benesch) and his mentor Marvin Bader (Ben Chaplin), the story focuses on the intricate details of the high-tech broadcast capabilities of the time, juxtaposed against the many lives at stake and the moral decisions that needed to be made against an impossible ticking clock.

Directed and co-written by Swiss filmmaker Tim Fehlbaum, September 5 stars Peter Sarsgaard, John Magaro, Ben Chaplin, Leonie Benesch, Zinedine Soualem, Georgina Rich, Corey Johnson, Marcus Rutherford, Daniel Adeosun, Benjamin Walker and Ferdinand Dörfler.

Paramount Pictures presents, in association with Republic Pictures, September 5, a BerghausWöbke Film and Projected Picture Works production, in co-production with Constantin Film and ERF Edgar Reitz Filmproduktion. September 5 is written by Moritz Binder and Tim Fehlbaum, co-written by Alex David, produced by Philipp Trauer, Thomas Wöbke, Tim Fehlbaum, Sean Penn, John Ira Palmer, and John Wildermuth, co-produced by Geoffrey Mason, Constanze Guttmann, Rüdiger Böss and Christian Reitz, and executive produced by Martin Moszkowicz and Christoph Müller.

September 5 will join other award-winning and critically acclaimed films as part of the world-class movie library on Paramount+.

September 5 is rated R for language.
