According to Variety, Bomer will portray a character reminiscent of Betty White’s ditzy Rose from “The Golden Girls,” while Lane will take on a role similar to Bea Arthur’s Dorothy. Linda Lavin will play Lane’s mother, echoing the original Sophia.
Hulu describes the series as following three best friends, older gay men, who decide to spend their golden years together in Palm Springs after an unexpected death. The wealthiest among them lives with his mother and a naked Gen Z housekeeper. Nathan Lane stars as Bunny Schneiderman, Matt Bomer as Jerry Frank, and Linda Lavin as Sybil Schneiderman, Bunny’s mother. Bunny, a successful businessman approaching retirement, is always searching for love but needs to believe he deserves it. Sybil, wise and caring yet sometimes critical and smothering, shares her son’s complex personality traits. Jerry, who left the Mormon Church and his marriage in his early 20s after being outed by his wife, is a pure-hearted man, hard-bodied but somewhat naive.
Bomer’s recent work includes “Fellow Travelers” and “Maestro.” He often collaborates with Murphy, who directed him to a Golden Globe win for “The Normal Heart.” Lane, a seasoned actor of television, film, and Broadway with three Tony Awards, has recently appeared in “The Gilded Age” and “Only Murders in the Building.”
