Discovery Channel kicks off 2023 with an all-new series that introduces audiences to the individuals who go to great lengths to keep their hands dirty just to keep everyone else’s bathrooms and kitchens clean. “Sewer Divers” premieres Sunday, January 1, 2023 @ 9PM ET/PT, directly following “Dirty Jobs” with Mike Rowe.
“Sewer Divers” takes audiences on a journey through the outdated, centuries-old sewer systems in key cities across the U.S. that are maintained by the brave workers who do the job most people wouldn’t dare to even think about. From broken pipes to eye opening clogs, these workers will take viewers with them as they dive down deep to do all they can to keep our clean water running and toilets flushing.
In the series premiere, some of the sewers of New York, New Jersey, and Ohio will be documented as “Dirty Water” Don from New Jersey goes down into the rushing currents of raw sewage. He sports a $3,000 rubber suit fit with a 30-pound helmet to keep him safe from noxious chemicals coming at him from all directions. Later in the episode, The Emergency Sewer Division of Mount Vernon, NY tries to drain over a foot of sewer water piling up into a resident’s basement. And in Cleveland, the Northeast Ohio Sewer District team attempts to clean a massive pile of hardened sludge dubbed the “Mega Clog” from the floors of the sewers. Other divers featured in the series include Rick Simon who battles grease and sludge fatbergs in the sewers of Connecticut.
