For the first time in its history, NBC’s “Law & Order” brand is bringing all three of its casts together for a special night of inspired drama programming from creator Dick Wolf on Thursday, September 22 from 8-11PM ET/PT on NBC. It will air the next day on Peacock.
The “Law & Order” premiere event, which will help kick off NBC’s broadcast season, intertwines the plotlines of “Law & Order,” “Law & Order: SVU” and “Law & Order: Organized Crime” into a singular and all-encompassing three-hour story.

As the telecast begins, a mysterious young girl is shot in cold blood, and Det. Frank Cosgrove (Jeffrey Donovan) teams up with Det. Jalen Shaw (Mehcad Brooks, first episode) to track down her killer. Capt. Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Det. Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) are called in to help when they realize they have more than a typical homicide case on their hands. After uncovering key evidence, Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston) and ADA Nolan Price (Hugh Dancy) seek justice against an international crime ring, but complications threaten the outcome of their case.
“Nothing demonstrates the power of the ‘Law & Order’ brand more than an ambitious three-hour event with a story that is truly ripped from the headlines that start on ‘Organized Crime,’ then migrates to ‘SVU’ and finally the trial on ‘Law & Order,’” Wolf said. “Rick and Gwen did an amazing job writing a compelling script and I can’t think of a bigger and better way to launch the new season of ‘Law & Order’ Thursday.”
“This unprecedented scheduling block is a tribute to all the ‘Law & Order’ fans who’ve been watching this iconic brand for four decades on NBC,” said Lisa Katz, President, Scripted Programming, NBCU Television, and Streaming. “We couldn’t be more excited to open our season with such a historic event.”
‘LAW & ORDER: ORGANIZED CRIME’
Christopher Meloni stars as Det. Elliot Stabler, who returns to the NYPD after a decade away and must rebuild his life after a devastating personal loss. Meloni first played the role as an original cast member on “Law & Order: SVU.”
Stabler’s sergeant and partner, Ayanna Bell (Danielle Moné Truitt), leads the task force with skillful authority, a vast knowledge of underground crime syndicates and a long-game strategy to take them down from the inside. Observant and deceivingly smart, Jet Slootmaekers (Ainsley Seiger) utilizes her tech expertise and hacking skills to give the team a leg up on striking their target.
“Law & Order: Organized Crime” is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, in association with Wolf Entertainment.
‘LAW & ORDER: SVU’
This hard-hitting and emotional series from NBC’s “Law & Order” brand chronicles the lives of the Special Victims Unit of the New York City Police Department, an elite squad of detectives who investigate crimes of sexual assault, child abuse, and domestic violence.
As commander of the SVU, Capt. Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) is a seasoned veteran of the unit who has seen it all. She leads with empathy and professionalism, all the while dealing with her difficult past as a product of rape, and her responsibility as a trailblazer in survivor advocacy, both of which influence the way she relates to the victims and perpetrators of each case. Olivia Benson is the longest-running female character in a primetime live-action television series.
Hargitay has garnered an Emmy Award for Outstanding Actress in a Drama, a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Television Drama Series, four Gracie Allen Awards for Outstanding Female Lead and a People’s Choice Award for Favorite Drama TV Star. She earned an additional seven Emmy nominations and six Screen Actors Guild Award nominations for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series. She was also honored with the Crystal Nymph Award at the Monte Carlo TV Festival and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next to the star of her mother, screen legend Jayne Mansfield.
As Benson’s second-in-command, Sgt. Odafin “Fin” Tutuola (Ice T) adds a unique sense of humor and undercover investigative experience, making him a formidable match for any partner. Senior Det. Amanda Rollins (Kelli Giddish) has earned her place as an integral part of the team while facing head-on the emotional toll it takes to work SVU. Det. Joe Velasco (Octavio Pisano) learns the nuanced and sensitive approaches to working with SVU survivors as the newest member of the squad. Assistant District Attorney Dominick “Sonny” Carisi (Peter Scanavino) brings a fresh outlook and distinctive style of investigation to his cases while navigating the politics of the DA’s office.
“SVU” is frequently acknowledged for its guest players, with Emmy wins for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for Ann-Margret, Ellen Burstyn, Cynthia Nixon, Leslie Caron and Amanda Plummer, and nominations for such renowned talent as Brenda Blethyn, Carol Burnett, Robin Williams, Marcia Gay Harden, Angela Lansbury, Marlee Matlin, Mare Winningham, Barbara Barrie, Martha Plimpton, Jane Alexander, and Tracy Pollan.
“SVU” has won two Imagen Foundation Awards for Best Drama Program, one NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Drama Series, two Edgar Allan Poe Awards for Best Television Episode, six Prism Awards for the accurate depiction of substance abuse and mental illness, and five episodes have been nominated by the GLAAD Media Awards for outstanding representation of the LGBTQ community.
‘LAW & ORDER’
NBC is bringing back one of its most treasured and honored dramas with the 21st season of “Law & Order.” The series, which will continue the classic bifurcated format that was created for its original run, will once again examine “the police who investigate crime and the district attorneys who prosecute the offenders.”
Sam Waterston, Anthony Anderson, Jeffrey Donovan, Camryn Manheim, Hugh Dancy, and Odelya Halevi star.
