Paramount+, the streaming service from ViacomCBS, today announced that the Emmy-nominated, animated, satirical news program STEPHEN COLBERT PRESENTS TOONING OUT THE NEWS will transition to weekly half-hour episodes beginning Friday, October 8.
The new format will feature three segments that focus on topical news of the day, the week’s most dominating stories, and special guests, including Norman Lear, Mark Hamill, Jennifer Rubin, Malcolm Gladwell, Reverend Al Sharpton, Chris Hadfield, and more. The weekly episodes will be made up of the current show segments: “Big News,” “The Establishment,” “Virtue Signal,” “Hot Take,” “Inside The Hill” and “Smart Talk Tonight,” with the latter next featuring the Academy Award(R)-nominated documentary filmmaker Ken Burns on Friday, October 21.
Nominated for an Emmy in the Outstanding Short Form Comedy, Drama or Variety Series category, STEPHEN COLBERT PRESENTS TOONING OUT THE NEWS features a cast of animated characters lampooning top news stories and interviewing real-world guests.
The series is executive produced by Stephen Colbert and Chris Licht of CBS’ THE LATE SHOW with STEPHEN COLBERT and RJ Fried and Tim Luecke from SHOWTIME’s “Our Cartoon President.” The series is produced by CBS Studios.
In addition to STEPHEN COLBERT PRESENTS TOONING OUT THE NEWS, Paramount+’s growing slate of original animated series includes STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS, RUGRATS, KAMP KORAL: SPONGEBOB’S UNDER YEARS, and NO ACTIVITY, as well as the recently launched THE HARPER HOUSE and upcoming STAR TREK: PRODIGY, premiering later this fall.
