Ovation TV, America’s only arts network, is set to celebrate ‘Virtual’ Arts Advocacy Week 2021 (April 12-16) by hosting a special Arts Advocacy Week programming block every morning from 6:00-8:00AM ET, featuring documentary specials on Ford’s Theatre, David Hockney, Nina Simone, the Hamilton musical, and more. The arts network will also highlight select arts programming in a curated “Arts Advocacy” folder on the Ovation NOW app as well as on the “Watch” section of Ovation’s website.

Thursday, April 15

6:30AM ET: The Met: Fashion in an Age of Technology
7:00AM ET: My Years as Louis Armstrong

Friday, April 16

6:00AM ET: Nina Simone, The Legend
7:00AM ET: Stealing Van Gogh

The special dedicated Arts Advocacy folder on the Ovation NOW app and on the “Watch” section of Ovation’s website will be available to all throughout the entire month of April, highlighting excellence in the arts community; this includes the premiere of the 2020 documentary Banksy and the Rise of Outlaw Art from director Elio España. Featuring rare interviews with Banksy, this is the story of how an outlaw artist led a revolutionary new movement and built a multi-million-dollar empire, while his identity remained shrouded in mystery.

Additional titles found in the Arts Advocacy folder are the 2018 documentary Stealing Van Gogh from director Julian Hendy and the docuseries A Season at the Juilliard School, plus original Ovation TV titles Arts Across the Heartland, Brilliant Green, and Young Marvels.

Stealing Van Gogh: art historian Andrew Graham-Dixon uncovers the truth behind the greatest art heist of the 21st century. In December 2002, two priceless paintings were stolen from the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam in a brutal and audacious robbery.

A Season at the Juilliard School: follows a year in the life of students of the New York prestigious school of drama, dance, and music. The school has taught such talents as Meryl Streep and Pina Bausch.

Arts Across the Heartland: Ovation TV travels state to state to shine a light on the places and people who are elevating and enriching lives through the power of art. These are real stories about real people who are making a difference and showing the positive impact that art has on their communities.

Brilliant Green: this Ovation TV original special explores how the demands of becoming eco-friendly have inspired a wide variety of designers to become even more creative.

Young Marvels: celebrates the impressive achievements and struggles of young talent from across all areas of the arts and the parents who nurture, support, and sometimes push them. Featuring exceptionally gifted dancers, singers, musicians, and more, this docuseries uncovers a generation of artists intent on making their mark before reaching adulthood.

As part of its Stand For The Arts advocacy platform, the arts network will be airing public service announcements and data snipes throughout not just the week but the entire month of April, highlighting local arts organizations that have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and calling for more federal support for the arts. Stand For The Arts is a national initiative started by Ovation TV with a mission to raise awareness, protect access, and encourage action on behalf of the arts.

A New Start for the Arts: The arts are crucial to the U.S. economic recovery. We are stepping in and we need your help, too.

Ovation TV’s efforts celebrate and bring attention to Arts Advocacy Week 2021, a summit where advocates (virtually) meet with their federal elected officials to garner support for pro-arts issues. Led by State Captains, advocates will meet with their own U.S. Senators and U.S. Representatives to share compelling stories and data about the impact and transformative power that the arts have in their communities. Arts Advocacy Week is hosted by Americans for the Arts.

Ovation NOW is available on iOS, Android, Roku, and Amazon Fire. The app is free to download and can be used on phones, tablets, set-top boxes, and connected TVs.
