This Friday, March 12 marks the 25th anniversary of the short-lived but much-loved comedy series “The Dana Carvey Show” created by Saturday Night Live veteran Dana Carvey. The legendary show premiered on ABC in the spring of 1996, and 25 years later, found its home on Crackle. All eight episodes, including one that was never aired, are currently available to stream for free.
Carvey stars in and writes this sketch comedy show in which a company of recurring performers tape before a live audience in New York City. The show features some of comedy’s greatest minds, before they were household names, including Steve Carell (The Office), Stephen Colbert (The Colbert Report), Charlie Kaufman (Being John Malkovich), Robert Smigel (Triumph the Insult Comic Dog), Jon Glaser (writer, Inside Amy Schumer), Robert Carlock (30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt co-creator), and Dino Stamatopoulos (writer, Late Night with Conan O’Brien).
Only lasting a few episodes, “The Dana Carvey Show” ran for seven of its 10 intended episodes before being pulled for content considered controversial at the time. Although it didn’t air for long, the show maintains a loyal following all these years later.
