Smithsonian Channel has partnered with the U.S. Department of Defense to commemorate Victory in Europe Day (VE), presenting a special program called VICTORY IN EUROPE 75 ANNIVERSARY. On Friday, May 8 at 8PM ET/PT the special will premiere on Smithsonian Channel and salute the remaining World War II veterans while celebrating America’s resolve and the resolve of our World War II veterans. Alongside historical footage, VICTORY IN EUROPE 75 ANNIVERSARY will include an impressive line-up of notable journalists and celebrities thanking veterans for the sacrifices they made to secure peace for our Nation and our allies around the globe.
The program will include remarks by Secretary of Defense Dr. Mark T. Esper, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Miley, ABC’s Robin Roberts, NBC’s Tom Brokaw, Comedian Jay Leno and actress Tatiana Zappardino. Exclusive interviews with WWII veterans will complement the historical footage, telling the story of the world 75-years-ago. The program will additionally be broadcasted virtually by the U.S. Department of Defense beginning at 10:30AM, across digital platforms that include Defense.gov, Facebook, and Twitter.
”As we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Allied victory in Europe during World War II, we honor the sacrifices of all those who served during this defining moment in human history,” said Secretary of Defense Dr. Mark T. Esper. ”Although we face significant challenges with COVID-19, our commitment to remember the bravery and sacrifices of our WWII veterans will not change.”
