The CW Announces Holiday Specials and 2020 Midseason Premiere Dates

On Friday, November 29 (8:00-9:00PM ET), the one-hour special GRANDMA GOT RUN OVER BY A REINDEER returns to The CW. Based on the hit song that became a worldwide holiday phenomenon, this goofy and heartwarming adventure features young Jake Spankenheimer on the quest of a lifetime to track his missing Grandma down on Christmas Eve to prove that Santa Claus is indeed real. Michele Lee (“Knots Landing“) provides the voice of Jake’s greedy Cousin Mel and recording artist Elmo Shropshire provides the narration. An encore presentation of GRANDMA GOT RUN OVER BY A REINDEER will air on Wednesday, December 18 (8:00-9:00PM ET).

Also airing on Friday, November 29 (9:00-10:00PM ET) is the very merry episode of PENN & TELLER: MERRY FOOL US. The magical duo of PENN & TELLER is joined by host Alyson Hannigan to help kick off the holiday season with this all-new special complete with magicians, costumes and a Christmas Trophy! PENN & TELLER: MERRY FOOL US stars Penn & Teller and host Alyson Hannigan (“How I Met Your Mother“). PENN & TELLER: FOOL US is created and produced by 1/17 PRODUCTIONS with executive producers Peter Adam Golden, Andrew Golder, Penn Jillette and Teller. An encore presentation of PENN & TELLER: MERRY FOOL US will air on Monday, December 16 (8:00-9:00PM ET).

THE 88th ANNUAL HOLLYWOOD CHRISTMAS PARADE will air on Friday, December 13, (8:00-10:00PM ET). The “Largest Christmas Celebration in America” will be hosted by popular personalities Erik Estrada, Laura McKenzie, Dean Cain and Montel Williams with special co-host Elizabeth Stanton and Grand Marshal Mario Lopez. The parade on Hollywood Boulevard will include live musical performances from a variety of today’s popular entertainers. A true Hollywood tradition, the parade features larger-than-life inflatable character balloons, and celebrity-filled cars making the heralded trek down the three-mile parade route. Taped for network television, the celebration is presented and produced by Associated Television International.

The all-new special THE CHRISTMAS CAROLER CHALLENGE premieres Sunday, December 15 (8:00-9:00PM ET). Hosted by Dean Cain and Laura McKenzie, the six-episode hour-long Christmas caroling competition series featuring 12 extraordinary Christmas carol groups, each with their own stylized brand of performance, in celebrating the great Christmas music we have all come to love. We’ll meet these groups from the most elaborate ultra-traditional virtuoso performances to those with the most unexpected twists on the classic Christmas carol. Each group which will be judged by three celebrity judges. This all-new special is produced by Associated Television International.

On Monday, December 16 (9:00-10:00PM ET), Kevin Frazier (“Entertainment Tonight“) and Keltie Knight (“Entertainment Tonight“) return to host GREATEST HOLIDAY COMMERCIALS COUNTDOWN 2019. This holiday special will countdown the 12 best holiday commercials ever – one for each of the 12 days of Christmas. In addition to the top 12, the special features other great commercials from both the U.S. and abroad, that capture the true spirit of the holiday season – from the heartfelt to the hilarious, from the outstanding to the ridiculous. Executive producers are Robert Horowitz and Lewis Fenton and produced by JUMA Entertainment. An encore presentation will air Tuesday, December 24 (9:00-10:00PM ET).

The all-new special DOGS OF THE YEAR will air Tuesday, December 17 (8:00-9:00PM ET). This special is hosted by Kevin Frazier and Nischelle Turner from the American Kennel Club Museum of the Dog in New York City. The special counts down the Top 10 dog stories of 2019, celebrating the dogs that go above and beyond, that leave their mark on society, and achieve the nearly impossible. Dogs that have climbed mountains, soothed burn victims, helped inspire an NHL team to a Stanley Cup, and have gone viral with their message of love. The CW will broadcast the holiday special MASTERS OF ILLUSION: CHRISTMAS MAGIC 2019 Wednesday, December 18 (9:00-10:00PM ET). This special from Associated Television International and hosted by Dean Cain features some of today’s hottest magicians. An encore presentation of MASTERS OF ILLUSION: CHRISTMAS MAGIC 2019 will air Tuesday, December 24 (8:00-9:00PM ET).

On Thursday, December 19 (8:00-9:30PM ET), The CW will air iHEARTRADIO JINGLE BALL 2019, a 90-minute holiday music event that celebrates the season with performances by the year’s biggest recording artists. This star-studded concert event will feature performances from many of today’s hottest musical stars. An encore presentation of iHEARTRADIO JINGLE BALL 2019 will air on Wednesday, December 25 (8:00-9:30PM ET).

On Friday, December 27 (9:00-10:00PM ET), The CW will air POPSTAR’S BEST OF 2019. Presented by Associated Television International and based on polls from Popstar Magazine, host Elizabeth Stanton will count down the greatest and most memorable moments and trends of 2019.

The CW Sets the Series Finales of “Arrow” and “Supernatural” and Season Finales of “All American” and “Black Lightning”

The CW Network announced dates for the debut of its new series KATY KEENE, plus the returns of DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW and ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO.

A spinoff of the hit RIVERDALE, The CW’s new midseason series KATY KEENE, starring Lucy Hale, Ashleigh Murray, Jonny Beauchamp and Julia Chan, debuts Thursday, February 6, 2020 (8:00-9:00PM ET/PT), followed by an original episode of LEGACIES (9:00-10:00PM ET/PT).

DC’S LEGENDS OF TOMORROW officially kicks-off its fifth season on Tuesday, January 21 (9:00-10:00PM ET/PT), following an original episode of ARROW (8:00-9:00PM ET/PT). ARROW will conclude its eighth season with a two-hour event on Tuesday, January 28, beginning with a finale preview (8:00-9:00PM ET/PT) followed by the ARROW series finale (9:00-10:00PM ET/PT).

SUPERNATURAL will move to Monday nights, making its new time period premiere on March 16 (8:00-9:00PM ET/PT), paired with the second season return of ROSWELL, NEW MEXICO (9:00-10:00PM ET/PT). The week before, on Monday March 9, ALL AMERICAN (8:00-9:00PM ET/PT) and BLACK LIGHTNING (9:00-10:00PM ET/PT) will have their back-to-back season finales.

SUPERNATURAL will wrap its historic 15-season journey on Monday, May 18.

The premieres of the second season of IN THE DARK and the final season of THE 100 will be announced at a later date.

KATY KEENE follows the lives and loves of four iconic Archie Comics characters – fashion legend-to-be Katy Keene (Lucy Hale), singer/songwriter Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray), performer Jorge Lopez/Ginger (Jonny Beauchamp), and “It Girl” Pepper Smith (Julia Chan) – as they chase their twenty-something dreams in New York City… together. Katy designs clothes for anyone she can, including her friend and roommate Josie, whose singing talent catches the attention of Alexander Cabot (Lucien Laviscount), a CEO who hopes to reboot the record label division of his father’s corporate empire. But Alexander’s dream of signing Josie to a recording contract meets resistance from Cabot Media’s powerful senior vice president Alexandra (Camille Hyde), who also happens to be his twin sister. Josie and Katy’s roommate Jorge works at his family’s bodega and has his eye on Broadway, but after a series of rejections, he hopes to take his drag performance career as Ginger to the next level. The mysterious Pepper Smith plans to open her own version of Andy Warhol’s Factory. She has the connections, but no one seems to know where she got her money – or if she really has any at all. Katy struggles to manage the pressures of her day job at Lacy’s Department Store and her very demanding boss, Gloria (Katherine LaNasa), who is a legendary personal shopper. But Katy has the support of her longtime boyfriend, KO Kelly (Zane Holtz), who has his own dream of becoming a professional boxer. As these aspiring artists take on the runway, the recording studio, Broadway, and the NYC social scene, they will find more than just a career in the big city – they’ll find long-lasting friendships.
