CBS has ordered 13 episodes of Superior Donuts, a multi-camera a comedy based on the 2008 play of the same name by Tracy Letts.
Starring Judd Hirsch and Jermaine Fowler, Superior Donuts follows the relationship between the gruff owner (Hirsch) of a small donut shop, his enterprising new young employee (Fowler) and their loyal patrons, in a quickly gentrifying Chicago neighborhood.

In addition to Hirsch and Fowler, Katey Sagal will play Randy, a street cop for whom Superior Donuts is part of her beat. She’s been on the force a long time and nothing fazes her.
The role was played in the original pilot by Megyn Price. The executives of CBS and CBS TV Studios considered a number actresses of different ages and ethnicities during an extensive, months-long search.
The cast of Superior Donuts also includes Maz Jobrani, David Koechner and Rell Battle.
“This show has been very high on our radar since we first put it into development last winter,” said Glenn Geller, President, CBS Entertainment. “Jermaine Fowler is a rising young star, Judd Hirsch is a comedy legend and the entire cast is full of great comedic talent. We’re very excited to expand our comedy line-up with Superior Donuts.”
