Thursday, February 17:
Survivor 10: Palau
  8:00PM on CBS

Episode 1:  "Season Premiere" [Tentative Date]
December 12, 2004  Survivor 9 Episode 14
The first part of tonight's finale recapped the events of Vanuatu up to this point.  Historic Survivor moments, such as Chris and his butt hanging onto the pole for dear life, Twila vs. pretty much everyone, and the day when the female viewers cried, the night Brady was booted are shown.

Returning to present day 36, it's night time in the the camp, where  and the remaining ladies of the tribe are arguing.  Twila and Eliza are bickering back and forth, with Eliza being pissed that Julie is gone, and Chris considering it sweet revenge for the women stabbing Rory in the back, and the general downfall of the men. Twila and Eliza bicker all through the night, with Twila pointing out that, hey, Eliza didn't do anything and her saying "You don't deserve to be here!". Twila counters with,  "The only reason your here, Eliza, is because everyone's used you up to this point."

After Twila goes to sleep, Eliza calls her a "dumb bitch" (feel the love!). Chris really believes that Eliza should trust him more, and that she has no trust.  [I found it amazing that these people would be bickering at a time where they'll be needing their support to win.]

The Vertical Maze stands several stories high.
In the morning, the Survivors face the next to last immunity challenge. Jeff explains that this immunity challenge will be the second most important immunity challenge and it will bring you to the final three if you win the immunity. "Today you will take part in the
first ever 'Survivor' vertical maze.  You'll make your way up and through this maze collecting ten pairs of wooden tiles, one pair at a time. When you've collected all ten pairs and you have them at your station you'll untie them to reveal ten letters. Use the letters to form a two-word answer. First person to solve this correctly wins immunity, guaranteed spot in the final three. "

Chris, Twila and Eliza all start out pretty quickly as Scout starts out a bit slower. Everyone is pretty neck and neck all the way through as Twila, Chris and Eliza are getting to the seventh tiles Scout is getting her third. Chris and Eliza start bumping into each other and Eliza tells Chris to be more careful or he's gonna hurt her.

Chris get his ninth as does Twila and Eliza is on her eighth, she is having problems finding her bags, Chris gets his last one and starts working on the letters, Eliza is not giving up as Twila comes in with her last one Chris announces " I got it, Jeff I think I got it"

Chris spells out "FINAL THREE" and is declared the winner of immunity. Chris is so happy and even Eliza is thrilled that Chris won other than Scout or Twila.  imagePart I [10 minutes]

Walking back to camp, Chris is relieved to have won Immunity. He shares his feelings with the girls reveling in the beauty of the day.

In his camera interview Chris elaborated, "MAN! I needed it so bad. I never give up. That's the one thing. I'm the last man standing. I'm NOT giving up on this game. Twila gave me a run for my money but immunity is what I wanted. It's a good day. I've got my work cut out for me now. An alliance is something you got with somebody you trust. It's not meaning a whole lot right now. It's making that final two and getting that chance to win."

Twila, Chris and Scout are all congratulating each other on making it this far. The Three Amigos tell each other it was what they wanted from the start while Eliza is on the beach by herself. Twila beams, "Right now I just wanna gloat. Gloat that the little wench is going home TONIGHT! I'm gloating."

Chris complains, "Twila is so wound up. She works on me. I'm going to have to deal with her all afternoon. She gets on my nerves. She's just totally outta control and nervous all the time." Chris and Twila are seen talking. Chris tells Twila to wait until 30 minutes before Tribal Council and start riding Eliza like a dog. (gotta love it).  Twila worries, "I wanna gloat but it's just what Chris wants. He knows the more I piss everybody off right before they go, it's more votes for him if he's in the final two."

Back on the beach, Chris is feeding Eliza pretty much the same thing. He confides to Eliza he is going to vote Twila off. Eliza said, "I'm lucky enough to be in the final four with someone I can put all of my trust into. Now that we have made this pack to be in the final two alliance, neither one of us is going to vote against the other one. We are going to do everything to get to the final two together."

Eliza then approaches Scout to tell her that she would rather see Scout and Chris in the final two and NOT Twila. She would rather have people in the final two she would be happy to see win and not someone like Twila.

Again the camera focuses on Chris, "I didn't come here to get second place or third or fourth either. I came here to win. I don't look at myself being aligned with Scout and Twila. There is no loyalty or trust there. There is nothing. It's all about getting yourself to the next step. To hell with everyone else." We see the sun setting in between a rock formation and darned if it doesn't look like two devils horns to me.

Tribal Council #1- The final four walk into the Tribal Council Area. Jeff calls in the jury, Sarge. Chad. Leann. Ami. and Julie voted out at the last tribal council.

Jeff: "Eliza, when you see it around Chris' neck, are you envious or do you think I like him?"

Eliza: "Of course I'm envious, but, you know, if I couldn't have it, Chris would be my next choice for the person to have individual immunity, that's no secret so, yeah, I'm definitely happy for Chris."

Jeff: "Chris, you're a little bit in the driver's seat because you seem to have relationships with all three of these women."

Chris: "Absolutely I have a relationship with all three of these women, but, you know, I can't take away my focus of playing the game. No matter if I've developed a friendship with somebody, friendship, game. Friendship right there. I'm gonna have to put it back here tonight."

Jeff: "Twila, were there days out here when you thought, 'Okay, I was maybe a little rough today.'?"

Twila: "Most definitely, yeah. There's a couple of major mistakes that I've made out here and I feel pretty bad about. The main thing that comes to mind is swearing on my son's name and I'm very ashamed of that, but I can't take it back."

Jeff: "What do you think his take, James will be on that ?"

Twila: "If I win a million dollar, he'll say, hell, yes, mom, you can swear on my name any time you want. I just shouldn't have done it. Bottom line. I should never have brought his name into it. I should have never done it. "

Jeff: "All right, Chris. You have immunity. At this point in the game I think you'd be a fool to give it up probably but you never know what somebody's strategy is."

Chris: "I'm not a fool. I'm not giving up immunity.

Jeff: "Can't you not vote for Chris, Eliza, Scout, Twila, one of you is about to go home. Let's find out who it is. Eliza, you're up. "

We get to see Eliza vote for Twila and see Twila vote for Eliza. Jeff goes to tally the votes. "Once the votes are read the decision if final, the person being voted out will be asked to leave the tribal council area immediately. Ill read the votes. First vote: Eliza. Second vote: Twila. Next vote: Eliza. Two votes Eliza, one vote Twila. The 15th person voted out of Survivor: Vanuatu and the sixth member of the jury, Eliza. Eliza brings Jeff her torch. "Eliza, your tribe has spoken." Jeff snuffs her torch.

The Final three leave. Shortly being ousted from Alinta, Eliza had this to say: "I'm definitely disappointed that Chris vote for me. I was shocked that he wrote my name down when he said he wasn't going to and he gave me his word. Turns out I did not have a single ally this entire game. I look for the best in people and its definitely gonna change my outlook and yea that hurts." [Geesh Eliza I wonder why you didn't have a single ally.] imagePart II [10 minutes]

Night 37 Alinta
After Tribal Council, the three amigos are happily back at camp. The Final Three are commenting about Eliza's dirty look she shot at them on her way down the path. The happy trio are bantering jokes back and forth about her look to kill. Chris laughs, "I don't know what her problem was. I stuck to my alliance."

As the three lie on the beach together under the night sky admiring the spectacle of stars, Scout remarks, "The sound is beautiful because it's so quiet. There is NO Eliza noises in camp." Twila adds, "It's kinda like getting a thorn outta your foot or side. You know, she just drove me nuts for so long."

Chris laments, "I never dreamed I would be playing the game the way I am. Lying and deceiving but you ain't got no choice. 'Cause I tell you what. If you don't step it up and start playing the game in your best interest that will benefit you to go to the end, you'll be soon be sent packing and not go home with a million bucks that'll change your life."

We see them all bedding down peacefully for the night.

Day 38 Alinta
In the morning, Jeff makes his way up the beach toward the camp to bid good day to the final three Survivors. Twila makes her way over the rocky terrain to greet him while the others take a more cautious path and stay behind. Jeff tells Twila to stop because he'll come to them. Jeff is on their beach to give the final three Survivors their next task. He reminds them of the story of Chief Roy and informs them they are about to go through a rite of passage. This sacred rite will lead them to their final Immunity Challenge of the game.

The Final Three are to make their way to Aratok Island also known as Hat Island because of its shape. They are to reflect on each past Survivor as they pass their torches along the path to the sacred burial site of Chief Roy. He reminds them the Chief died for his island and was buried along with many of his loved ones, some who were buried alive. He asks that they take an offering of some importance to give thanks for the time the Vanuatu people have afforded them on their island. Jeff finishes, "Once you are done, I will meet you on the other side for the last Immunity Challenge."

Once on the island, they pass each torch, one by one, with the name of their former Survivor competitors. They must not have had much to say as we hear a message from each of the eliminated Tribe members instead. Each fallen Survivor offers their point of view on the game and their experience on the island. After they finish their torch trek, they come upon Chief Roy's grave. The each offer something of importance as a sign of their gratitude. Chris offers the rock first given to them by the Vanuatu tribe for luck. He places it near the base of the grave. Scout places the "elder stick" she was given when she had to divide the teams with Sarge, against the weathered gravestone. Twila then places her offering with the others as they thank the Chief for keeping them safe during their stay on his island. Next, they make their way to the final and most important Immunity Challenge in the game.

Final Challenge is going to be an endurance challenge. Everyone is already tired from the canoe and long walking journey in the heat. Jeff explains that they will be holding a bow and arrow while holding a warrior stance while standing on top of two uneven logs. They must pull the bow back till a marker is released, once the marker is released they must remain in that position, if they release the pressure the arrow will go threw the marker and end their chance at immunity, last one standing wins immunity and on top of everything else they must do this barefoot.

As the challenge starts everyone gets in position, after about 15 minutes Jeff tells the survivors "Don't lose your concentration, fight through the 1st stage of pain" the sun starts beating down and Chris is starting to sweat. Less that 30 minutes in and Scout is out of the competition, Jeff tells her to have a seat on her platform. Chris starts talking to Twila about her getting down, Twila says why he doesn't get down, Chris doesn't trust her, Twila doesn't trust him either. Chris gets a little rocky but is okay, Twila really comes close to falling off but recovers nicely as Scout cheers her on. Chris says Twila you gonna step down again she says no and Chris says well you better stay up there a long time because Scout cheering you on speaks volumes about what is going on. About 55 minutes in Chris asks Scout " Are you dreaming of Twila winning" Jeff asks if they are feeling it yet, Twila says she can feel the heat but it feels good, Chris says he loves it.

At one hour, seven minutes, Twila pierces her marker and Chris is announced winner of the immunity, he screams " Oh god yeah!!" and throws his hat into the air.
imagePart III [10 minutes]

Jeff tells Chris you now have the afternoon to decide who to send to the jury and who to bring with you to the final two, good luck and I'll see you all later.

After the Immunity Challenge, the weary Survivors struggle back to their camp with all three in agreement of how it's been a very long day. Chris and Twila hug and share secret whispers while Scout hobbles her way back to the hut.

Twila confides, "Chris and I had an agreement. If he won, I would take him. If I won, I would take him. I don't know if he will now 'cause I tried to hang in too long and it might look like I did it just so I could take Scout with me. But it's just not true. I didn't do it for Scout. I did it for me, for me, my own self."

Chris observes, "That challenger, Scout, was cheering on Twila. [Scout said] 'Hang in there.' Scout was praying to the Gods that Twila would win. Scout wants to got to the Final Two. I guarantee you if I find out they have an [female] alliance, Twila ain't necessarily going to be the one in the Final Two."

Chris and Scout take a moment together to discuss his fear of a secret alliance between the two elder tribeswomen. Twila takes a private stroll along the beach while Chris and Scout chat. Chris asks Scout point blank if she and Twila had an agreement for the Final Two. Surprisingly, Scout answers Chris truthfully and says "NO." Chris is dumbfounded on two levels. First, he really thought Twila had lied to him. Second, Chris can't believe when Scout had the chance to improve her position in the game by lying to him, she chose to hold fast to her ideals and was honest with him. Now he is torn between the two women as he struggles with his decision on who to take to the Final Two to sit beside him and face the Survivor Jury.

Tribal Council 2- The final three walk in. Jeff calls in the jury. Sarge, Chad, Leann, Ami, Julie and Eliza voted out at the last tribal council. Chris had won immunity for the second time and was not about to give it up. The voting would be a little different this time. Chris has immunity so Scout nor Twila could vote for him. Leaving them to vote for each other so they are cancelled out. Chris would be making this only vote. Turns out that Chris voted for Scout. Scout brings Jeff her torch. "Scout your tribe has spoken." Scout leaves and the final two is set. Chris and Twila. Scouts final words: "Felt really good about how I played the game. I maintained loyalty and integrity as long as loyalty was there to embrace and when it wasn't, I embraced another alliance and was able to turn the game around. It was a lot more exciting and fun and I'm glad that I got this far and wish Twila and Chris the best of luck."

The Final Tribal Council on Night 39. Jeff calls in the jury which is now complete. Sarge, Chad, Leann, Ami, Julie, Eliza and Scout voted out at the last tribal council. The final two would plea their case to the jury as to why they deserve to be Sole Survivor. Then the jury would make their comments and questions. Once the questioning is done, the jury votes. We get to see Scout and Ami vote for Twila and see Sarge and Eliza vote for Chris.

Once the jury votes are completed, Jeff runs off with the urn containing the votes. The votes would be read in the U.S. He lights a torch and chops through the woods with a machete. Once out, Jeff climbs aboard a plane and travels back to the U.S. with a layover in Hawaii.

For the first time, Jeff goes skydiving, and when he lands in the desert, he jumps on a motorcycle and drives to the finale. There he reads the votes.

The first vote: Chris. Second vote: Chris. Two votes Chris. Next vote: Twila. Twila. Tied: Two votes Chris and two votes Twila. Next vote: Chris.
The winner of Survivor: Vanuatu Islands of Fire is:

Chris Daugherty!
A 33 year old highway construction worker from Lincoln Ohio.
