Our wordsmiths are watching Survivor and writing their summaries of tonight
November 10, 2005  Episode #9: "Secrets and Lies and an Idol Surprise"
Previously on Survivor: Yaxha and Nakum merged in the dead of night. The old Yaxha members felt outnumbered. Tree mail brought word of a small immunity idol hiding nearby in the jungle and the search was on. At the immunity challenge, survivors chose between competing for individual immunity or partaking in a feast. Jamie made clear the tribe divide as he harassed Bobby Jon. In the tie-breaking round, Gary took home individual immunity. Back at camp, Jamie revealed Brandon's time was up. Giving Brandon a glimmer of hope. At tribal council, Bobby Jon and Jamie were once again at each other's throats. When no one produced the idol, the votes were close between Jamie and Brandon. In the end, Brandon was sent home.

Night 21

Back from Tribal Council Jamie is upset at the comments made by Bobby Jon. He and Rafe are by the fire discussing it. Rafe says, “Just take some time and like, you know, don't react. Like we're all making the jury. Let's just take tonight and sleep.”  Judd pipes in, “You don't want to go to bed angry.” Jamie responds with, “I'm not angry. My feelings are hurt.” In confessional Bobby Jon tells us, “I called Jamie out at tribal council. It really got to him because he knows I told the truth. The kid showed no class today, none whatsoever."

We go back to camp and Jamie and Bobby Jon, “Why did you say I have no class?” Bobby Jon tells him, “Because at the time; competing, you know, you're rooting another person on that's competing right beside them to me, and I may have a wrong opinion, and if I do, I'm sorry, that's how it came off to me, you know, hey.” They continue to discuss it and Jamie is upset over the “white trash” comment Bobby Jon made. Rafe later confesses to us, “Jamie took it way too personally. He was looking for some kin of an outlet for all the emotion he was feeling, and the way for him to do that was to kind of blame Bobby Jon. And if Jamie doesn't use this as an experience to learn and change from, then I'm going to change up this game.”

Day 22

We see Lydia making breakfast and Jamie in bed still looking depressed. She takes the food to the others and Judd says he will pass on eating today. He tells us, “Camp life is great, man. At this point in the game, we're up in numbers, so, I mean, we got 6-3 now. Most vulnerable now is Danni, Gary and Bobby Jon. They know they are.” Steph and her group discuss that they have the numbers and have to stick to that. Steph: “When you have them, you stick with them.” Judd agrees, “Exactly. Listen, if it was the other way around, they'd be doing the same thing.”

Danni and Bobby Jon are sitting around eating their share of breakfast and talking about the immunity idol. “It's got to be here somewhere. Our ass depends on it.” Danni says to Bobby Jon. He tells us, “I need that immunity idol now. I need it right now. It's going to be tough. All I know from the clues is that it's visible, but it's going to be hard to find. But that's the only chance I have. I'm on the chopping block. There's pretty much nothing I can do to budge the magical six up there. What do you do? You have to just keep trying.” He and Danni are both searching high and low in the jungle. Danni: “It's hopeless. We can't find it anywhere. Hopefully we'll get some more clues to where it might be. But I'm just praying. So maybe the lord will lead me to it.” Gary is also on the hunt too.

Reward Challenge:
Jeff motions them all in and asks them how they are doing then gets to the challenge for today. Jeff: “Today's challenge is for reward. It will test your ability with a Mayan Weapon. This is an indigenous Maya weapon used to give warriors more distance when they would toss a spear in battle. Today you're going to use it to throw an arrow toward a target, in this case the center poll. Each person gets only one throw. The person who ends up closer to the target wins this challenge.” Jeff goes on to explain what they are playing for, “food... And the good news is everybody here will eat today. The bad news is what you eat will depend on how well you do in this challenge. You will leave here and go to a lodge where you will find nine meals waiting for you. First place gets the best meal. Last place gets the worst meal. I'll tell you this: First place, Steak and Lobster. Last place is not. In addition, the winner of this challenge gets one clue to the location of the hidden immunity idol. There are Wow’s from the castaways.

They draw for position and get underway. Not really a great challenge to commentate, so the winning order is. Judd, Cindy, Danni, Jamie, Stephenie, Gary, Rafe Bobby Jon and Lydia. However, Jamie decided to take one for the team and go into last place because of what he did In the last challenge. He wants to redeem himself.

Day 22
Xhakum tribe and Jeff arrive at the lodge for the reward. Judd gets his own large table, the rest will sit across from him at another table.
Judd’s meal comes out first – steak, lobster, beer. He also has access to open bar and dessert menu.
Jeff mentions that the dog and puppies live there.
Cindy’s meal is next – Chicken and Veggies, and it looks like a carafe of wine.
Danni gets spaghetti and a glass of wine.
Steph gets a burger and beer.
Gary gets one slice of pizza.
Rafe gets a ham and cheese sandwich and a glass of milk.
Bobby Jon gets a baked potato.
Lydia gets one small fish. Jeff mentions how appropriate this is, since she is a fish monger. Lydia is emotional, saying it’s more than she expected – she was expecting maybe a cracker.
Jamie is last and receives Ramón nuts and water from the lake. Jeff assures him it was boiled first.

Jeff reveals there is a twist – since there is so much room at his table, Judd can choose to invite one or two others to join him. They will have access to the open bar and to the dessert menu. Judd says that one person welcomed him from the very start of the game and that is Bobby Jon. Bobby Jon comes over and joins him. Judd then says that one other person made him feel welcome from the first time he saw her, and that is Stephenie. Steph comes over and hugs Judd as she joins him at his table. Jeff tells Judd that at his table they can share whatever they want to. The other table is not allowed to share anything. Jeff hands Judd his clue to the hidden immunity idol.

Steph gives Bobby Jon half of her burger and Judd gives him half of his steak. They all share the lobster. They get various desserts and lots of drinks. Stephenie confessional: “So I move over the king table and Judd orders a drink for all of us. It was like heaven, it was unbelievable.”

Bobby Jon confessional: He tells us it was a total nine course dinner, but he didn’t gorge and pig out as much as he could of because he felt bad for Gary who just got a single slice of pizza. He was trying to be as respectful as he could when he was eating.

Judd and Steph are having a big time ordering booze and dessert. Judd tells Gary he is killing him and he can’t even look at him. Gary tells him not to worry about it and he won’t look at him anymore.

Idol Clue
This idol still alludes you,
It seems nowhere to be found.
It’s not buried or concealed,
Nor directly on the ground.
Gary tells us in confessional that two hours of watching them gorge themselves and get drunk is not his idea of fun.

Xhakum is walking back to camp. Judd is wasted and having trouble staying on his feet. Bobby Jon has a cigar and lights it in the campfire. Judd tells Bobby Jon he loves him like a fat kid loves cake. Judd hugs Jamie. Gary talks about how drunk Judd is. Gary tells us that Bobby Jon and Judd are trying to move a tree trunk and put it in the fire. He says it is really a 30 foot tree. We see them trying to move it and Judd keeps falling down.

Day 23
Danni is talking to Steph about someone throwing up in the shelter. She thinks it was Judd. Judd admits he threw up but not in the shelter – he says he went over by the ruins. They tell him no, he threw up in the shelter (we get a peek at exactly where- ewwwww). Judd says it’s all a blur to him.
Judd is talking to Steph about the clue he got for the hidden idol. He goes to hand it to Steph and she tells him not to show that to her in front of other people, they’ll get pissed. He reads it to her.
Steph says it must be in a tree. She tells us in confessional that she felt really honored that Judd let her in on the clue. She tells Judd if he finds it he is definitely in the final four.  Judd then goes over and tells the rest of the group about his clue. He lies and tells them the clue says the idol is “definitely by far on the ground so to speak”. He tells us he doesn’t have a problem lying to the others, that’s what the game is all about. image Part Two [10 minutes]

Day 24

Jamie and Rafe are playing a game on the ground. Jamie seems really paranoid, apparently, and it’s nothing unusual. He is making sure that everyone is still with “the plan” of voting off Gary, Bobby Jon and Danni. Rafe tells us in confessional, “Jamie is paranoid all the time. He's always saying, you're not going to vote against me, are you? I wish I could say that I thought what he did by taking the lowest meal was an act out of the goodness of his heart. I don't know if it was. I don't really think it was. And so, you know, I don't trust Jamie.”

We see Gary and Jamie talking. Jamie tells Gary the plan is to vote Bobby Jon out first. Gary says that he has to vote for Jamie as he needs to keep his alliance. In his interview he tells us, “I told Jamie that I would vote for whoever they're voting for tonight, just because it would be stupid for me to get them any more mad at me than there already are. And there's no breaking that six.” Jamie is with Judd, Steph, Cindy explaining Gary is voting for him. As he walks off, Steph tells the others that Jamie is really paranoid and she is losing patience with him. She tells us, “I really see Jamie as a huge liability and a threat to all of us because he's just not all there. He seems like a loose cannon. I feel like he can ruin our entire plan.”
Tree Mail
Balance, speed, dexterity.
There's lots of needs to worry.
Move to slow, you can lose it all,
And be first to join the jury.
Steph and Bobby Jon made the hike to tree mail. Steph is carrying some kind of contraption that looks like a balance beam.  Gary is practicing balancing before the challenge as well as Danni and Rafe. Jamie is still on his paranoia kick.

Immunity Challenge:
The tribe makes their way to the challenge. Jeff explains how today will work. Jeff: “Today's challenge will test your coordination and your balance. On my go, all nine of you will make your way across a balance beam, untying two wooden blanks as you go. Only the first four tribe members to cross the finish line with their two planks move onto the next round. For the next round, you will use those two wooden planks to help you move across a knotted rope bridge. The first two to reach the platform moves onto the final round. For the final round, you must navigate a two-line balance bridge. You fall in the water. You go back to the start. First person to reach the finish platform wins immunity.”

Round 1
They get underway and Gary is the first with a plank. Steph takes a tumble after getting her first knot untied. Jamie sits down to make it safer. Bobby Jon takes a fall and Judd touches the ground with his foot and Jeff sends him back to the start. Steph is the first to the end followed by Gary, Jamie and Rafe. The move onto the next round.

Round 2
Jeff gets them underway and Gary falls off. Steph and Jamie are in the lead with Rafe catching up. Gary falls again and is out of it. Rafe takes the lead and makes it to the end along with Jamie. They both move on to round three.

Round 3
Jeff sets Rafe and Jamie off. Jamie has a handle on the rope bridge while Rafe almost falls. Jamie is over half way. Rafe loses his balance and falls with Danni and Bobby Jon laughing in the background. Rafe has to go back to the start. Jamie is the first one to the finish and wins Immunity.

Day 24

Back from the Immunity Challenge, Jamie hangs his necklace on a tree in camp. He and Stephenie discuss that it’s Gary being voted out tonight. Jamie also wants to confirm that after him its Bobby Jon. Steph tells us, “Today Jamie won immunity. I was actually getting really frustrated with him. I was thinking maybe we could get rid of him and be okay, but he won immunity, so it's definitely out. But we've got a great plan in place, and we're going to get rid of Gary first.”

Rafe, Jamie, Judd and Steph all discuss voting out Gary. Steph comments that it just seems too easy. She feels Gary is a huge threat physically in challenges and he is always in game mode. Gary, Danni and Bobby Jon are sitting around talking. Gary says, “I can guarantee that it will be one of us three going tonight!” They all laugh.

Bobby Jon talks to Judd and Jamie. He tells them that Steph can’t be trusted. That she will break any alliance she has made with someone. He tells us later, “I told them I played with Stephenie before, great player, pretty, charming, athletic. She'll do what she's got to do. She'll lie to your face and give you that million-dollar grin. And she's going to get you guys. I’m telling you. They both looked at me and said, you're not the one going home tonight. I said, all right.”

Gary is in the jungle searching for the Idol. He spots Judd and wonders why he is searching In the trees and not on the ground. Gary tells us, “I think it's pretty amazing that Judd told everybody the clue is on the ground, and I followed him back here and he's looking in the trees. Pretty interesting. If it's on the ground, I wonder why he's looking in the trees. There's no doubt in my mind that Judd is lying. I won't be looking on the ground.”

Tribal Council:
They make their way in and sit down. Jeff starts off his questions.
Jeff: So, Danni, this point in the game, how big a factor now does trust become?
Danni: At this point it gets kind of scary who you can trust and who you can’t. I'm worried because of the number game. I don't think obviously I can trust anybody at this point. My head is on the chopping block. I hate that, but it's just part of the game.

Jeff: Rafe you agree with that?
Yeah, I think, you know, there's definitely a lot of paranoia around camp at this point in the game. You see two people go off and talk, and you're like, are they talking about me, are they going to vote me off? That's running through everyone's head. At the same time, you have to kind of keep your focus and not let that drive you insane because it can in this game.

Jeff: Gary, can you lie in the game of "survivor" and not be breaking any kind of moral code?
Well, I think each individual looks at it differently, and there's no rule that says you can't lie in this game. It's just each individual looking at what they want to do and what they want to accomplish with this game.
Jeff: Told any lies? No.

Jeff: Judd, you lied in this game?
No, sir, not yet. You know, it might happen, but as of this point in the game, no I haven't lied about anything yet.

Jeff: Cindy, you trust these people?
Actually, I trust these people more than I expected. You spend time with them, you get to know these people, and you can't help but development some sort of trust in them, but I don't think it's possible to go through this game from beginning to end and never lie to a single person about anything. So I think we're all going to be liars before it's all over.

Jeff: The other order of business, if anyone has found the immunity idol and wants to use it tonight, now is the time to bring it up.  They all look around and eventually Gary gets up and takes the idol to Jeff. Steph says, “Oh, my god! I knew it.” Judd tells Gary, “Gary. Man, good job.” Jeff tells them, “No talking. Cannot vote for Jamie. You cannot vote for Gary. It is time to vote. Judd, you're up.”

We see Jamie vote for Bobby Jon and say, “Wow! Sorry.” Bobby Jon votes for Steph and says, “You are starting to take control of the game. I don't know how long it's going to, last but better now than never, I guess.” Danni is shown voting for Steph but we don’t hear what she says. Steph votes for Bobby Jon and says, “I'm glad that you made the jury. If you're the one that goes tonight. But I could be wrong. If it's not you, congrants.”

Jeff goes to tally the votes.  First vote, Steph. Second vote Steph. Next vote is for Cindy. Next vote is Bobby Jon. Two votes Steph, one vote Cindy, one vote Bobby Jon. Next is Bobby Jon. That's two for Steph, two for bobby Jon. Next vote Bobby Jon. That's three votes Bobby Jon. Next vote Bobby Jon. Four votes bobby Jon. The next vote is for Bobby Jon and that make him the tenth person voted out of "survivor: Guatemala," first member of the jury.

Bobby Jon takes his torch to Jeff to snuff out. Before he makes his walk of shame, he says to Jeff “Thank you very much. I enjoyed it.” Then turns to the rest of the tribe turns and says. “Hang in there. Good luck.”

Jeff: “Well, it's clear from tonight's tribal council that the next phase of this game is going to center around lying. The only problem is, you're lying to your jury. Should make for a fun finish. Grab your torches. Head back to camp. Good night.”

Final words from Bobby Jon: “I was very surprise about the outcome tonight. I had no clue that Gary was going to pull out an immunity idol. He did. I wanted to win the game, but everything happens for a reason. The good lord didn't want me to win. I learned a lot about myself and communicating with people this time. I got a chance."
