22, 2005 Episode #2: "Man Down" |
Day 3
Nakum: In the dark, they return from Tribal Council. Bobby Jon: "Tonight we had Tribal council. It seems like that’s where I live. It’s like I’m paying rent. I’m ready for it to change." Returning to camp really took a toll on them and Margaret is nurturing everyone. Margaret: “We don’t have the energy to suffer the emotional hits. The physical hit is bad enough. The emotional toll Tribal Council takes on you, it’s terrible. It’s just a sick, sick feeling. Knowing we had to go; then worse coming back."
Day 4
Yaxha: They discuss the other tribe and how they don’t seem unified. Jamie
says, "I thought their team was just a powerhouse... but I guess they
weren't." Stephenie says, "They just don't look like they're
having fun." Brian agrees and adds, "No they don't!
They're not buddy buddy." Steph adds, "I'm telling ya, it's
Bobby Jon! He's so damn serious." Brianna: "It’s day four and we are getting to know each other really well. We all have different qualities. We really have an amazing tribe." Jamie: "We’ve got the most diverse group here. We got a bum, Police Officer, a Magician Assistant; we got a fishmonger, we got a gay guy and we got a landscaper. We all come together and it’s just brilliant." Gary tells the viewers: "They all asked me what I do and I told them I was a landscaper. No one asked me what I did 15 years ago. So I guess I don’t have to tell them."
We see Stephenie doing Morgan's hair. She seems to
really enjoy the people in her tribe. She tells us, "It’s just like a fun camp life. Much different from anything I experienced before. So I think the fact we get along so well is huge. Cause we do have good team morale. It’s become like a family and we are hoping to keep that family together for a long time."
Day 4
Nakum: Judd announces, "We've got some tree mail folks."
Cindy reads it to the tribe..

Hunger is a burden; you’ll need energy to compete.
You’ve been caught in a web of hardship.
Winning this one will help you eat.

Blake is really not happy. Tree mail was the last thing he wanted. He is having so much trouble breathing. He isn’t sleeping and water doesn’t seem to be helping. Margaret is really worried about him.
"I'm really really worried about Blake. He's a strong young
guy. He heaving... he's struggling to get breath and something is not
right." We see Judd and Brandon looking on. Blake is laying on
the ground with Margaret tending to him. He seems to be having a really
hard time and cramping up again. Brandon has had enough. He doesn't
think Blake can handle it out there. In his interview he tells us,
"He's on his hands and knees and breathing hard. He's been having
trouble ever since they came here." He doesn't have anything against
him but says Blake just needs to "Man up."
Part One [15 minutes]
Reward Challenge:
Both tribes make their way to the Reward Challenge. Yaxha gets to see who was
voted out at the first Tribal Council. Once everyone is in place Jeff explains the challenge: "On my go you will race one at a time up a ramp, across a net run and to a web. Attached to
the web are bags. Crawling underneath the web, retrieve a bag one at a time. Once you have a bag, drop down and make your way back. Fall in the water without a bag and you have to come back to the start. Everyone must attempt this once. After that, you can use anyone you want. First tribe with 8 bags: wins reward." Jeff shows them what they are playing for: fishing equipment. Jeff says that these waters have a lot of crocodiles, but along with the crocs you have plenty of fish. Because Yaxha has one extra member, Amy sits out this challenge.
Jamie and Bobby Jon lead off. Bobby Jon struggles and Jamie makes it back first. Ryan and Cindy set out next and Cindy makes up ground and puts her tribe into the lead. Stephenie and Blake are the third ones to go and they come back even. Gary and Brandon are next and Yaxha takes the lead. It keeps going to a tie seven-seven. Blake and Brian are the last two to go and are neck-in-neck. Blake makes it back first and Nakum wins reward. Jeff hands the reward over and tells a deflated Yaxha tribe to head back to camp.
Day 5
Nakum: The sun is up and the whole tribe is in their canoe fishing. Brandon: We got up at the butt crack of dawn. Blake says he is feeling better and says as long as he can feel competitive he is good. Over at Yaxha tribe, Rafe says they’re in desperation food mode and that he will try everything at least once. They are foraging in the forest for food and consider eating a grasshopper. Gary says Morgan isn’t pulling her weight at camp. Meanwhile, Lydia is shown building a sand trap at the edge of the water trying to catch some protein. Rafe and Gary eat ants from an ant nest they found. Stephenie says she isn’t eating ants as long as there is corn and water. Lydia came back with 8 minnows that tasted like trout on the grill. Gary called her a workhorse. At Nakum, Blake is still panting and struggling for breath. Judd says Blake does nothing in camp and Margaret nurtures Blake all day tell him to sit down and relax. Judd: Damn, how much more relaxing does this man need? Judd and Brandon think Blake is working it and saving his energy for the challenges and they are not going to pull his weight for him. Judd wants to be the hero of the next
challenge.

Bobby Jon is sure it’s a tug-of-war. Danni knows that Gary from the other side is a football quarterback and thinks that will be an asset to the other tribe.
Immunity Challenge:
Both tribes arrive at the Immunity Challenge and Jeff takes back the immunity idol. It is indeed a tug-of-war. Both tribes will be connected to each other by a rope and have to pull their way to get their flags. Three flags in the fastest time wins. But wait! There is a time element involved. If the team on team competition doesn’t result in a flag getting retrieved in 15 minutes of play, then the challenge will head into one-on-one showdowns. Yaxha decides to sit out
Brianna. They are also allowed to impede the progress of the other side. Danni and Brian have a bit of a shoving match and then seem to pow-wow with Danni mentioning that Gary is a quarterback. Time runs out and because of the stalemate they move to one-on-one showdowns.
The one-on-ones are a little different. They have 5 minutes and the side closest to their flag gets a flag. It takes three flags to win. First up is Judd versus Gary. Judd gets the rope to pull him closer to the flag when Gary tackles him. It makes no difference though, because Judd was closer and Nakum is awarded the first flag. Second to compete are Brandon versus Jamie. Brandon makes short work of Jamie and gets the second flag for Nakum. The third round has Judd versus Jamie. Jamie made an opening move putting him in the lead, but at the last second as Jamie was relaxed, Judd made a huge move taking the lead and winning the third flag for Nakum. It was a clean sweep. Yaxha is told they will have to go to Tribal Council. (Judd was indeed the challenge
hero!)
Part Three [7 minutes]
Day 6:
Yaxha: Everyone is sitting in the water cleaning the mud off. Stephenie: Let’s just clean up, have a good dinner and not worry about it right now. They guys talk and Jamie wants to get Stephenie out because she is so strong, has played before and he considers her a threat. Gary says they need the strength and expertise to win challenges. The girls tell Stephenie she is being targeted and she just can’t understand why they would want to get rid of her so early in the game. She refuses to go out early. Brian directly asks Gary if he is s pro football player. Brian says Danni told him Gary was and that she is a sportscaster. Gary feels she was stirring up trouble and he plans to just keep denying it because he is sure he will be voted off of he reveals it. In the end, the team can’t decide between voting off Lydia or Morgan. Morgan is considered lazy around camp but athletic for challenges. Lydia is older and weaker at challenges. Brian campaigns hard to keep Lydia and even tells her she is vulnerable. Lydia knows her head is on the chopping block and approaches Gary: “I am not ready to go Gary."
It’s time for Tribal Council. Jeff tells them to get torches and light them. “Fire represents your life.” Jeff questions Stephenie first who says she feels welcome in the tribe. Jamie says she is tough, not like a woman. He says she is more like a boy. Lydia says she intends to give it her all and is not ready to give up. Morgan says they are unified and “we all kind of know what is going on.”
They all vote. Jeff goes to tally them. Jeff reads the votes. The first vote is for Morgan and the second is for Lydia leading to a one-one tie. Then it’s all Morgan from there and when she has 5 votes, Jeff says: “The second person voted out of Survivor Guatemala is Morgan. (She seems bewildered.) After Morgan leaves, Jeff observes that he believes they are unified but at the same time, the person they voted out didn’t see it coming.
Morgan: Wow I did not see that one coming at all and I don't know why I got voted off. She says she feels really naïve but the experience over all was worth every minute.
