If you missed previous editions, you can read them starting here. This edition is late, so I'm not
going to blab too much about the summer releases. Let's just say
I've seen them all, loved them all and you should buy them all. The
summer list includes a lot of series that are into their later seasons,
but the advance word on the fall releases (and beyond) have the inaugural
releases of some great old shows. Here are
some titles I've been waiting for:
All 22 episodes from the
seventh season--including "A Night Not to Remember," "Jack Gets His," "The
Impossible Dream," "Bob & Carol & Larry & Terri," and "Janet's Little
Helper," plus a special memorial to Don Knotts--are featured in a
four-disc set. 9 hrs. total. "Three's
Company"
"The
Honeymooners" are in color and believe it or not, musical.
Jackie Gleason was doing a weekly variety show from "The sun and fun
capitol of the world, Miami Beach..." In 1966 Gleason brought back
the Honeymooner characters, but with a few changes: of course the show was
in color, but the Honeymooners sketches were made into musicals In
addition Art Carney returning as Ed Norton, Sheila MacRae and Jane Kean
joined the cast as Alice and Trixie. The plot is that Ralph has won a
slogan contest, and the gang packs up to tour Europe.
The Color
Honeymooners Collection 1 includes nine, one-hour episodes of The
Jackie Gleason Show digitally re-mastered and unedited. Included are
Gleason's glamorous Glea Girls, The June Taylor Dancers, Sammy Spear & His
Orchestra and announcer Johnny Olson
"Family
Affair": Season One [DVD](1966)
All 30 episodes from the series's debut season--including "Buffy," "Jody
and Cissy," "Mrs. Beasley, Where Are You?," "Ballerina Buffy," and "The
Butler Method"--are featured in a five-disc set. 12 1/2 hrs. total.
Standard; Soundtrack: English; featurette; photo gallery.
"Animaniacs", Vol. 1 [DVD](1993) Twenty-five episodes are
featured in this five-disc set. 12 hrs. total. Standard; Soundtracks:
English Dolby Digital 5.1, Dolby Digital Surround stereo, Portuguese Dolby
Digital mono; Subtitles: French, Portuguese, Spanish.
Not Coming to DVD:
That's right, some series DVD releases have been cancelled due to poor
sales. An article in
HomeMediaRetailing, entitled "Unfinished
Business" lists "Boy Meets World" Season Four, and
future releases of: “Who’s the Boss?” “The Jamie Foxx Show,” “Murphy Brown,” “Night Court,”
and "Everwood"
as causalities of their poor sales records.
Looking Forward: August 29,
"Desperate Housewives,"
Season
Two: Extra Juicy Edition
"ALF,"
Season 4 is coming in
September. "Roseanne"
has her fifth season release in September. "The Addams Family"
in October. Shout
Factory will release "That Girl" Season Two in October, A definitive boxed
set of the original "Twilight Zone" series featuring all five seasons, is
coming in October, and it's not just a re-pack, they're adding more
extras. "Penn and Teller's Bullshit," Season 3, has been moved back to
October. Coming in December 12, "Gomer Pyle USMC." Corin Nemec of "Parker Lewis
Can't Loose" says he's been contacted to record audio commentaries for
a 2007 release of Season One "Parker Lewis Can't Loose" .
More titles are
