Connected tells the story of the extraordinary 30-year friendship and partnership between 58-year-old Augie Fabela, currently an acting US police officer in Illinois, USA, and 88-year-old Dr. Dmitry Zimin, a former top-secret Soviet scientist turned entrepreneur turned philanthropist. The two started the first Russian company listed on the New York Stock Exchange. For over a decade, Zimin stood alone as the primary public financial supporter of opposition leader Alexey Navalny, risking everything to champion change in his homeland. On the eve of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the two embark on a final journey together before Zimin’s scheduled euthanasia in Switzerland. The film captures the closing scenes of a life and a time of peace. Zimin’s and Fabela’s story is both an embodiment of the harsh historical cycles that have defined Russia over the past century, set against the vastly different world the US and Russia find themselves in today.
