TV One will debut the remastered, high definition version of iconic mini-series Roots: The Saga of an American Family beginning Sunday, Oct. 18 at 8PM ET. The six-part, special enhanced version of Roots will air in its entirety during the week each night that time (preempted on Friday, October 23) , with the finale on Saturday, October 24.
Roots is based on Alex Haley’s Pulitzer Prize-winning book telling the stirring, sweeping saga of his unforgettable family and its struggle over many generations to survive slavery and regain freedom.
Roots: The Saga of an American Family; first aired, on ABC-TV, in 1977. Roots received 37 Emmy Award nominations and won nine. It won also a Golden Globe and a Peabody Award. It received unprecedented Nielsen ratings for the finale, which still holds a record as the third highest rated episode for any type of television series, and the second most watched overall series finale in U.S. television history.
A new version of Roots will air on the cable networks of A&E, History and Lifetime next year.
